How It Works

1

Enter your domain

Type any domain name (e.g. example.com) and optionally specify a DKIM selector.

2

Parallel DNS lookups

The tool queries TXT records for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, BIMI, and MTA-STS simultaneously.

3

Validate & score

Each record is validated for syntax, common issues, and best practices with severity ratings.

4

Fix with guidance

Get specific recommendations for each missing or misconfigured record with DNS record examples.

Why Use MailCannon's Authentication Checker?

SPF validation

Check SPF record syntax, detect +all or ?all policies, count DNS lookups against the 10-lookup limit.

DKIM lookup

Query any DKIM selector, verify the public key is present and non-empty, detect revoked keys.

DMARC policy check

Verify DMARC policy (none, quarantine, reject), check for rua reporting, detect multiple records.

BIMI readiness

Check for BIMI record and logo URL. Get guidance on VMC requirements for major providers.

MTA-STS enforcement

Verify MTA-STS TXT record and id field. Get instructions for publishing the policy file.

Instant results

All five DNS queries run in parallel. Results typically arrive within seconds.

What Is Email Authentication?

Email authentication is a set of DNS-based protocols that let receiving mail servers verify that an email genuinely comes from the domain it claims to be from. The three core protocols — SPF, DKIM, and DMARC — work together to prevent spoofing, phishing, and impersonation.

Without authentication, your email is far more likely to land in the spam folder or be rejected entirely. Major providers like Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo now require SPF and DKIM for bulk senders, and DMARC is increasingly mandatory. BIMI and MTA-STS add brand visibility and transport-layer security respectively.

How to Fix Missing Records

  • SPF: Add a TXT record: v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all. List all your sending providers and end with ~all or -all.
  • DKIM: Enable DKIM signing in your email provider, then publish the public key as a TXT record at selector._domainkey.yourdomain.com.
  • DMARC: Add a TXT record at _dmarc.yourdomain.com: v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc@yourdomain.com. Start with p=none, then upgrade.
  • BIMI: Once SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are aligned, add v=BIMI1; l=https://yourdomain.com/logo.svg at default._bimi.yourdomain.com.
  • MTA-STS: Add v=STSv1; id=20260901 at _mta-sts.yourdomain.com and publish a policy file at mta-sts.yourdomain.com.
