Understand the signals behind your SEO audit
What is a website SEO checker?
A website SEO checker inspects a page for technical and on-page signals that can affect how users and search engines understand it. MailCannon analyzes the HTML and HTTP responses it can retrieve. It does not execute JavaScript, verify Google indexing or predict rankings.
How does the MailCannon audit work?
Enter a public URL, review its HTTP response and indexability signals, then inspect metadata, headings, images and links. Expand a finding for its explanation, practical fix and scoring weight. Export the report to keep a snapshot. A cached report retains its original audit timestamp.
What does a technical SEO audit check?
Technical checks include HTTP status, redirects, HTTPS, canonical URLs, robots directives, robots.txt and bounded XML sitemap inspection. A 200 response and crawl permission are useful signals, but they do not prove that Google has indexed a page. Review intentional noindex rules before removing them.
What is on-page SEO?
On-page SEO helps a page communicate its subject through useful content, titles, descriptions, headings, images and relevant links. Write for the intended reader. Heading counts and approximate word counts describe the document; they are not content-quality scores or minimum ranking requirements.
Why do title tags and meta descriptions matter?
A descriptive title identifies the page and may inform its search-result title. A meta description can provide a useful snippet, although search engines may replace it. Use unique, accurate wording. Character ranges are editing guidance, not strict Google rules or ranking guarantees.
What is a canonical URL?
A canonical URL is a hint identifying a preferred version of duplicate or similar content. A canonical that differs from the analyzed URL may be intentional. Review malformed or multiple tags and ensure the preferred destination matches your publishing strategy; a tag alone does not confirm the selected search-engine canonical.
What are robots.txt and XML sitemaps?
robots.txt describes crawl permissions for user agents. It is not a reliable way to remove an already known URL from search. XML sitemaps list URLs or other sitemap files to help discovery. This audit inspects at most two same-origin files; reported entry counts refer only to those files, not the whole website.
How can I check whether a page is indexable?
Review the final HTTP status, meta robots, X-Robots-Tag, relevant robots.txt rules and canonical signals together. “Potentially Indexable” means the observed signals do not prevent indexing. Confirm actual indexing through an authorized search-engine source such as Google Search Console.
What are backlinks and referring domains?
Backlinks are links from other sites to your pages. Referring domains are the distinct domains supplying those links. Links detected in this page’s HTML are outgoing page links and cannot reveal its backlink profile. Backlink counts require a licensed external index; MailCannon shows N/A without one.
Dofollow, nofollow, sponsored and UGC links
An ordinary link has no required “dofollow” attribute. rel="nofollow" qualifies a link, rel="sponsored" identifies paid relationships, and rel="ugc" marks user-generated content. Attributes can overlap. These labels describe links; no individual backlink guarantees improved rankings.
What are domain authority and spam scores?
Domain Authority, Domain Rating, Authority Score and spam or toxicity measures are provider-specific metrics with different methods. They are not Google scores. A third-party spam metric does not prove a Google penalty. MailCannon only displays these values when a real provider supplies them with attribution.
What does structured data detection mean?
JSON-LD can describe entities such as organizations, products or articles. Successfully parsing JSON and detecting a type does not validate its schema properties or eligibility for rich results. Review your markup with a dedicated validator. Clear headings and direct answers can support answer-oriented content without guaranteeing AI-search visibility.
What can HTML tell us about mobile performance?
A viewport tag helps mobile browsers size the page; it does not establish mobile friendliness. Image dimensions may help reserve space. Real performance and Core Web Vitals require measurements, with field data describing users and lab data describing a controlled test. Both remain N/A without a configured provider.
How should I prioritize SEO improvements?
Start with unintended HTTP errors, access restrictions and noindex signals. Then clarify titles and headings, describe informative images, review canonical strategy and add useful internal links. Test the rendered experience separately. Use keyword research to choose relevant topics, and measure outcomes rather than optimizing solely for a checklist score.
Website SEO Checker FAQ
What is a website SEO checker?
It is a tool that inspects website signals such as HTTP responses, metadata, headings and crawl directives. MailCannon checks a single public HTML page and a bounded set of auxiliary files.
Is the MailCannon Website SEO Checker free?
Yes. The core HTML audit is free and does not require an account. Rate and crawl limits protect this service and target websites.
How do I check my website’s SEO?
Enter its public URL and select Analyze Website. Review the summary, open the relevant report tabs and expand findings for practical next steps.
What is Domain Authority?
Domain Authority is a provider-specific metric from Moz. Other providers use names such as Domain Rating or Authority Score. This tool retrieves Domain Rating from BoostDomainRating. It is a third-party metric, not Moz Domain Authority or a Google score; unavailable responses display N/A.
Is Domain Authority a Google metric?
No. Third-party authority metrics are not Google scores and are not direct confirmations of ranking factors.
What is a Spam Score?
It is a provider-specific measure of signals associated with a backlink profile or site. It is not proof of a Google penalty. MailCannon does not invent a spam or toxicity score.
How can I check backlinks to my website?
Use a licensed backlink index or an authorized search-engine account source. MailCannon’s outgoing HTML links are not backlinks; its backlink section shows N/A without a provider.
What is a referring domain?
A referring domain is a distinct domain linking to your website. One domain may supply many backlinks. Neither value can be inferred from outgoing page links.
What is the difference between dofollow and nofollow backlinks?
An ordinary link follows default behavior without a special dofollow attribute. A link with rel="nofollow" is qualified; sponsored and ugc describe paid or user-generated links. None guarantees ranking benefits.
How do I know whether my website can be indexed?
Review HTTP status, noindex directives, robots crawl rules and canonical signals. This audit reports observed indexability signals, not actual Google indexing. Use Search Console to verify Google’s view.
What is the MailCannon SEO Score?
It is a weighted summary of the checks performed. PASS receives full weight, WARNING half and ERROR zero. INFO and unavailable checks are excluded. Weights appear in each expanded finding and the CSV export.
Does an SEO score directly affect Google rankings?
No. The MailCannon score is a local checklist summary, not a Google ranking score or ranking probability.
How can I improve my website SEO?
Fix unintended access and indexing restrictions, clarify metadata and headings, improve accessibility and internal links, and provide useful content. Verify rendered usability and actual search outcomes separately.
Does MailCannon guarantee better Google rankings?
No. This tool identifies technical and optimization opportunities. Rankings depend on many factors and no score or fix guarantees an outcome.
Does the checker render JavaScript or scan my entire website?
No. It parses fetched HTML without executing scripts. It inspects at most two sitemap files; optional broken-link checks are limited to three same-origin URLs. Client-rendered content may not appear in this audit.
Can I export the report?
Yes. Copy a text summary or download the structured JSON report and a UTF-8 CSV of findings. The report preserves the analysis timestamp and explains unavailable data.
