Look Up Another IP Address

Check any public IPv4 or IPv6 address to see its approximate location, ISP and network details.

Only public IPv4/IPv6 addresses are accepted — hostnames and URLs are not supported.

Popular examples:

What is a public IP address?

A public IP address is the address that websites and online services see when your device connects to the internet. It is usually assigned by your internet service provider, mobile carrier, company network, VPN or proxy, and it is how the response to your request finds its way back to you. Inside your home or office, your devices use separate private addresses that are not reachable from the internet — only your router's public address is exposed to the outside world.

What information can an IP address reveal?

An IP address is tied to the network that owns it, so a lookup can reliably show the country, and often the region, city, postal code and timezone associated with that network. It also reveals network ownership details: the ISP, the organization, the ASN, and sometimes the hostname and connection type. Geolocation providers map these by keeping databases of which address blocks belong to which networks and regions.

Network ownership

ISP, organization, ASN and hostname identify the company that operates the address block.

Connection details

Address family (IPv4 or IPv6) and, when reported, whether the connection is mobile or hosted.

IPv4 vs IPv6: what is the difference?

IPv4 is the original addressing scheme: 32-bit addresses written as four numbers between 0 and 255, such as 203.0.113.45. Roughly 4.3 billion of these exist, and that pool is now exhausted. IPv6 was introduced to solve that: 128-bit addresses written as eight groups of hexadecimal digits, such as 2001:db8::1234, providing enough addresses for the foreseeable future. Both remain in use, and many networks are dual-stack. This tool reports the family your connection actually used and shows IPv4 and IPv6 separately.

Why does my IP address change?

  • Most ISPs assign addresses dynamically, and reconnecting or restarting your router can issue a new one.
  • Switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data moves you to a different network with a different address.
  • Connecting a VPN replaces your address with the VPN server's address; disconnecting restores it.
  • Roaming between cell towers or load-balanced gateways can reassign you mid-session.

Why is my IP location wrong?

  • A VPN or proxy makes the lookup report the exit server's location instead of yours.
  • Mobile carriers pool addresses across wide regions, so the city shown may be a regional hub.
  • ISP routing and reassignments can lag behind geolocation database updates.
  • Some address blocks are simply registered to a company's headquarters, not where they are used.

Can someone find my exact address from my IP?

Not your street address. An IP address identifies a network connection, not a person or a building, so a lookup provides approximate network and geographic information — typically the country, region and city of the ISP or gateway that operates the address. Combining an IP with other data, such as an account you logged into, can narrow things down further, but the IP address alone does not reveal your name, your identity or your exact physical location.

How this tool works

This page detects the public IP address your connection used to reach it, then looks the address up to estimate location and network details. The detection and the lookup happen on MailCannon's servers, and no API key or account is required. The result is not personalized or stored in a profile, and IP geolocation is approximate — it reflects the network that operates the address, which may be your ISP, VPN, proxy or mobile carrier.
