How It Works

1

Enter your domain, IP, or email

The tool auto-detects whether you entered a domain name, IP address, or email address and routes the check accordingly.

2

MX records resolved

If you entered a domain or email, the tool resolves MX records to find the sending mail server IP addresses.

3

Parallel DNSBL queries

All IPs are checked against IP-based blacklists (Spamhaus, Barracuda, SpamCop, etc.) and the domain against domain-based lists (DBL, URIBL, SURBL).

4

Results & remediation

See which lists you're on, the severity of each listing, the reason, and direct links to request delisting from each operator.

Why Use MailCannon Blacklist Checker?

10 major blacklists

Spamhaus ZEN, Barracuda, SpamCop, UCEPROTECT, Abusix, Mailspike, Backscatterer, Spamhaus DBL, URIBL, and SURBL.

IP & domain checks

Checks both your sending IPs (via MX records) and the domain itself against the appropriate blacklist types.

Severity scoring

Each listing is classified as critical, warning, or informational based on its impact on email deliverability.

Direct delisting links

Every listing includes a direct link to the blacklist operator's delisting or lookup page.

Instant results

All DNSBL queries run in parallel. Results typically arrive within a few seconds.

No signup required

The checker is free and works without an account. Rate limits apply to prevent abuse.

What Is an Email Blacklist?

An email blacklist (also called a blocklist or DNSBL — DNS-based Blackhole List) is a database of IP addresses or domains that have been identified as sources of spam, malware, or abusive email. Mail providers like Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo consult these blacklists in real time when receiving email. If the sender's IP or domain is listed, the email may be rejected outright or routed to the spam folder.

DNSBL checking works through a clever DNS trick: to check if IP 192.0.2.50 is on Spamhaus, the system reverses the octets (50.2.0.192), appends the blacklist zone (50.2.0.192.zen.spamhaus.org), and performs a DNS lookup. A response means listed; no response means clean.

What to Do If You're Blacklisted

  • Don't panic. Most listings are fixable. Start by identifying which blacklist listed you and why.
  • Fix the root cause. Compromised server? Secure it. Sending unsolicited email? Stop and clean your list. Residential IP? Use your ISP's mail server.
  • Request delisting. Use the delisting links in your results. Each operator has their own process — some are automatic, others require manual review.
  • Prevent relisting. Authenticate with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. Keep your list clean. Honor unsubscribes. Monitor regularly.
  • Re-check after 24-48 hours. Some listings expire automatically; others take longer. Keep monitoring.
